Course Overview
Confined Space Training in Brisbane, Mackay or Townsville provides participants with the knowledge and skills required to enter and work in confined spaces in the Coal Mining, Metalliferous Mining, Quarrying, Drilling and Civil Construction industries. The course includes planning to work in a confined space, preparing to work in a confined space, working in a confined space, exiting from a confined space and cleaning up once the task has been completed.

Definitions
According to the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011, a "confined space" means an enclosed or partially enclosed space that:
  • is not designed or intended primarily to be occupied by a person; and
  • is, or is designed or intended to be, at normal atmospheric pressure while any person is in the space; and
  • is or is likely to be a risk to health and safety from:
    • an atmosphere that does not have a safe oxygen level; or
    • contaminants, including airborne gases, vapours and dusts, that may cause injury from fire or explosion; or
    • harmful concentrations of any airborne contaminants; or
    • engulfment; but does not include a mine shaft or the workings of a mine
Entry
Entry by a person into a confined space, means the person’s head or upper body is in the confined space or within the boundary of the confined space.

Recognition
The Confined Space Training in Brisbane, Mackay or Townsville is nationally recognised. Therefore if you complete the course in Qld your Statement of Attainment will be accepted, and you will be permitted to work in all other States and Territories, so long as you are within the refresher time period.

Refresher
Confined Space Training course typically takes one (1) full day to complete but it all depends on the Registered Training Provider and how fast you can demonstrate competence. A refresher course usually takes the same amount of time as a full course. The confined space course needs to be refreshed every 2 years but your Safety Manager in your workplace can risk assess the tasks that you perform in your workplace and make everyone redo the course every 12 months. It’s more common that industry set the benchmark at two (2) years. You need to be aware that it is a legal requirement to keep this course refreshed and up to date. Typically when you complete a refresher you need to demonstrate competence by meeting the competency standard and the trainer will notify you if any changes have been made in the last couple of years.
